Appearing in print

Its great to see my work featured in print and twice the pleasure when the model is my very own offspring This shoot was for an educational publisher for whom I do a fair amount of work. It was good fun not least because I got to pay my model in Maltesers rather than the normal modelling fee....You can see the final brochure complete with my artwork hereAnd this is one of the original images from the shoot

A fond farewell to summer

The trouble with having lots of client sessions to edit is that I never seem to get around to the photographs I take in my free time. Still with a bit of time on my hands today and the change of seasons hanging heavy in the air Ive been reminiscing on a succession of evenings this summer spent ankledeep in waves watching the sun setting on the magnificent Porthmeor beach in St Ives. This is a beautiful part of the world which we go back to year after year. The light is just wonderful especially in the early morning and at dusk. This shot is one of my favourite in my early crop of edits. Surfing at dusk

A beautiful wedding at Hartwell House

Hartwell House near Aylesbury was the backdrop to the wedding on Friday of a lovely couple Cathy and Mike. With guests gathering in the panelled library for tea beside a roaring fire and a ceremony room scattered with rose petals it really was a magical setting despite the overcast skies.Cathy had arranged mini rosemary trees as the centrepiece for each table at their wedding breakfast as rosemary was worn by both brides and grooms in the Middle Ages and simple wooden love hearts completed the simple but stunning arrangements. And as for the cake well....judge for yourselves.....A lovely couple who I hope are enjoying their honeymoon in Dubai and to whom Im looking forward to showing their full set of photographs on their returnCathy and MikeThe flowersThe stunning cake there were equally gorgeous cupcakes tooThe rosemary trees

Brass bands and tractors

Two weddings in the last two weeks have kept me busy this month. First of all the delightful Kate and Paul tied the knot at Lains Barn near Wantage. Guests were serenaded by the jolly tones of a local brass band and the weather was perfect. Always nice to work to musical accompaniment.Kate and PaulThen it was all the way to Newport for the wedding of Hannah and Gareth. The church in the tiny village of Llanvern was packed so much so about 30 guests had to stand outside during the ceremony.... Both bride and groom hail from farming families so the wedding was themed appropriately. Their carriage of choice to their reception was a bright red 1969 Nuffield tractor complete with just married signs a sofa and chilled champagne and the bride and groom emerged from the church to a pitchfork guard of honour courtesy of the local Young Farmers brilliantHannah amp Gareths bridal transport

Its been a busy week so far...On Monday I was busy shooting a new handheld device for Texas Instruments complete with hand model and on Tuesday my attentions were turned to a rather more fun shoot for an Oxfordbased publisher where my son and a couple of his school friends and their mums were my trusty assistants and models. This latter shoot was a riot. The client wanted a homey feel to the shots so we shot at good old Iris House. The children had a fab time and were most excited by the events of the afternoon. Ive almost recovered enough to package the shoot outputs up for the client. I hope they like the results...Im not sure my house and nerves would stand it again

The work of Jane Bown

A long while back it seems like ages now whilst studying portrait photography my lecturer pointed me in the direction of the magnificent Jane Bown a photographer who works exclusively with natural light. Working for the Observer for over 60 years Jane Bown has photographed many a familiar face and is rightly celebrated by fellow photographers and fans alike as one of the most amazingly talented portrait photographers there is. Her work really is amazing and a real inspiration to me. If you have a spare 5 minutes check her out and remember she works solely with natural light so no flash head no snazzy lighting rig and no studio just a superb talent and a 40year old camera...brilliant

On location in Westminster today

Just back from a shoot in Londons Westminster the impressive location was Portcullis House slap bang opposite Big Ben and the location for many ministers offices. Apparently there is an underground corridor to take the MPs safely across to Parliament when they need to cross the road. Spent the afternoon and early evening photographing MPs Lords and Baronesses for a corporate event. I love my job
